Yes, it is usual. The number of treatments depends upon many factors, including ink color, the quantity of ink, depth of ink placement in the skin and the brand of ink, i.e., while some black inks are quite responsive to laser, others are slow to fade. Some colors, e.g., green and blue, may not fade completely unless there is also alteration in skin texture. While some tattoos may be gone in a few treatments, many tattoos will require 10 to 20 treatments or greater.

Tattoos are permanent and should be thought of as such. While it may require one session to apply a tattoo, it can take a dozen or more to lighten or remove a tattoo.

Yes. Depending on the laser used it often takes more. I often do 10-15 treatments. If they are telling you 6 then I don't think they are being realistic.

It is difficult to say for any tattoo, exactly how many sessions it will take. Certain inks, even though they have been placed by an amateur can be very resistant. We let our patients know that on the high side, it could take up to 15 treatments. Generally amateur tattoos come off more easily, but not always.
