Rosacea Natural Treatment: Chamomile

Rosacea is an inflammatory skin condition that usually occurs in adults, and many people are turning toward rosacea natural treatment for relief. Many medications can make the problem worse or increase inflammation

How Chamomile Works

Chamomile is known as a 'calming' herb and is often consumed as tea to help with insomnia. But, it is also an herb that works well as a rosacea natural treatment because it contains both volatile oils (also known as “essential oils”) and flavanoids. The essential oils in chamomile act to soothe the skin, while the flavanoids are antioxidants that help reduce and prevent damage cause by free radicals. Flavanoids also promote healing. Research has shown chamomile to also possess anti-inflammatory, anti-bacterial and anti-allergenic properties.

How to Use Chamomile

There are a variety of products on the market that contain chamomile, however, these products could contain other ingredients that can worsen rosacea. The best rosacea natural treatment is to stay simple. For instance, steep a handful of chamomile or several tea bags in three cups of boiling water for at least 10 minutes. Cool, and store in the refrigerator. When the symptoms of rosacea occur, this solution can be applied to the affected area with a cotton cloth as a cold compress to reduce inflammation.

Other options include combining chamomile essential oil with eucalyptus, geranium or lavender oil, with a base oil such as jojoba or sesame oil to apply to the affected area for relief. Typically, this is done with a cotton ball. Sometimes, the simplest rosacea natural treatment is the best.
