What to Expect during Liquid Facelift

The liquid facelift is a nonsurgical technique that tightens the skin and helps to regain volume that may have been lost due to aging or weight loss. If you are looking for an alternative to a surgical face lift, this may be the right procedure for you, but you should know what to expect before having the procedure.

The liquid facelift does involve placing injections of a filler, like Botox®, to help volumize the skin. There are various fillers which can be used. To begin, you and your doctor will discuss your problem areas and where the injections should be placed. This can be done in a consultation appointment. Once you have decided that you want the procedure done, your appointment will be set up.

Appointment Day

On the day of your appointment, you will get to the office and your skin will be cleaned and sterilized. After that, a numbing cream can be applied to your skin. This is not necessary in all cases, but may be wanted in areas such as under the eyes and around the lips or tender areas. Once the numbing cream has be applied and the skin is numb, the doctor will begin placing the injections. This does not usually cause too much discomfort; it may feel like a little pinch. If you do have the numbing cream, you probably will not feel anything at all. The injections can take up to an hour depending on how many injections are needed.

After the Appointment

After your appointment, your skin may feel somewhat irritated. There may also be some swelling at the injection sites. Over the counter pain relievers can be used to help relieve any discomfort you may have, but most people do not have much discomfort. If there is a lot of swelling, an ice pack or cold washcloth can be applied to the skin. Keeping your head elevated can also help with the pain.

The pain and swelling usually does not last more than a day or two. If the pain and swelling lasts more than a week, you should call the doctor. Your doctor should give you instructions on how to care for the skin after the procedure. By carefully following these directions, you can decrease any risks or complications.

Recovery

The recovery time with a liquid facelift is usually less than a week. Most patients can resume their everyday activities within a day or two. Most people can return to work the next day. If you have the procedure done on a Friday, then you would have the weekend to recover before returning to work on Monday.

The liquid facelift is a less expensive alternative to a surgical facelift. This procedure is great for people who have a busy lifestyle and cannot be down for recovery time. If you are looking to have a facelift, talk to your doctor to see if the liquid facelift is right for you.
