Acne Treatment: Ayurveda

Acne treatment by Ayurvedic medicines and preparations has been followed since the olden days. Ayurveda is a holistic form of medicine that aims to bring harmony between lifestyle and health. According to Ayurveda, acne is an indication of an imbalance in one’s lifestyle. Hence, most of the Ayurvedic treatments for acne recommend dietary restrictions to control acne and its formation.

Prescribed Diet

Eating bland food items like oatmeal, Basmati rice or applesauce can alleviate the problem. Apart from this, you have to stop eating hot and spicy food, oily and deep fried food, and citrus fruits.

Lemon Paste

Take lemon juice and add equal amount of rose water to it. Apply this paste on the face for nearly half an hour, and then rinse it thoroughly with fresh water; if you do this for 10 days continuously, acne, pimples and blemishes get reduced.

Cinnamon Paste

Take 3 tablespoons of honey and mix one teaspoon full of cinnamon powder to it. Apply this paste on the acne-affected parts of your body before you go to bed. Wash it off thoroughly with warm water after you get up in the morning. Repeating this for nearly 2 weeks will ultimately stops acne formation.

Neem Paste

Neem has high antibacterial properties and is proven to be effective in treating epidermial problems like acne, psoriasis or eczema. Applying a paste of tender neem leaves and turmeric powder on the acne spots can be of great help to control acne.

Papaya Paste

Take one ripe papaya and squash it with water. Apply this paste and gently massage your face; leave it for 15 to 20 minutes. When the paste starts drying, wash your face with clean water and wipe with a rough towel. Now, apply a little amount of coconut or sesame oil on your face. Repeat this procedure for a week to remove pimples and scars from your face.

Besan (Gram Flour)

Take 10 gm of Besan and 10 gm of turmeric powder, and make a paste in curd. Apply this paste on your face with a massaging stroke. Wash it with plain water after the paste dries. It will provide relief from acne after seven days of continuous application.

Milk Remedy

Take a cup of milk and mix it with a cup of lemon juice in the morning. Keep this mixture aside throughout the day, and apply it while going to bed. Wash your face the next morning with clean water, and wipe your face with a rough towel. When continued for a couple of days, relief from acne can be noticed.

Other Home Remedies

There are numerous other Ayurvedic remedies available for acne. Crush a couple of garlic cloves and dab it on your face once or twice a day. You can also apply orange peel paste or Aloe Vera juice on the acne-affected parts. Mix sandalwood powder with rose water, or mint juice with turmeric powder and leave it for 20 minutes; then, wash it with lukewarm water.
