Why has my smile changed three months post-dermal fill? Can anything be done about it?

I had a type of bovine collagen filler for my marionette lines, minor lines above my upper lip and to raise my cheeks. My lip and area above are too big. Also, there are lumps on the top of each side. 3 months post-treatment, my smile has turned into only a joker smile or one in which my upper gums show. This recent change is upsetting. Is my only hope to have it dissolved? Does this happen to others sometimes?

Bovine collagen fillers were commonly used in the 1980's, but have been replaced with more biocompatible and more effective materials. When bovine collagen was commonly in use, it was incumbent on the practitioner to perform a skin test on the forearm one month before considering facial injections because 3% of the population was allergic.

First, I would confirm that your injections were in fact bovine collagen. Second, if so, was your skin tested?

If your skin was not tested, were negative AND the material injected was bovine collagen, then you may be having an allergic reaction or have developed a biofilm. You should return to the person who did the injections and possibly seek a second opinion from an experienced plastic surgeon or dermatologist.
