I had IPL about a month ago and love the results. However, I've heard that the results with IPL are not permanent, that they fade over time. Is this true? How can I make my results last longer?
The answer to your question may depend on the type of treatment you received. For IPL treatments that address brown spots, we have found that the spots return. Rather than get into a long winded discussion about laser physics, we will just draw this analogy. Q-switched lasers are able to easily remove tattoos and birthmarks, which cannot be removed with IPL. We point this out so that consumers may understand the differential in power between q-switched lasers and IPL treatments. This differential in power is the difference between getting IPL treatments every three to six months for brown spots and getting permanent removal of these same spots after 3 q-switched treatments.
In our opinion, IPL machines only exist so that physicians can buy one machine rather than three lasers. They do not represent superior technology.

Yes, it is true. Unfortunately, nothing last forever. Your results should
last a year or two if you a good skin line. They should include:
1. A good sunscreen. SPF 15+. It should include protection against UVA as
well as UVB rays. UVA ingredients are zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, or
mexoryl. You must look in the back of the product to make sure they have
this. If not you do not have protection against UVA, the rays that cause
wrinkles. Make sure you put the sunscreen several times a day the product
usually doesn't last for the whole day.
2. Vitamin C product
3. Polypeptides
4. Products that have growth factors
5. Retin A if tolerate
6. Other antioxidant ingredients like Vitamin E, green tea, etc

Patients usually do a series of Fotofacial treatments. The results will last you if you use your sunscreen every day and start a rejuvenation program at home.
