How to Use Turmeric for Acne Treatment

There are numerous acne treatment options available today. Some people try the instant relief way with peels, while others prefer herbal and home remedies. Turmeric is a spice belonging to the ginger family, and it has been used since olden days as an effective antiseptic. Turmeric can also be used to treat acne, a skin inflammation caused due to the infection of pores clogged with excess oil and dirt. Turmeric comes in paste and capsule form for acne treatment.

Healing Properties of Turmeric

Turmeric is a spicy herb that can be used for cooking or for external application because of its numerous medicinal properties. Turmeric is a natural blood purifier, and hence can eliminate most of the skin problems. It is also a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent. Turmeric is also known for its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-tumor, anti-allergic, antispasmodic, alterative, analgesic, astringent, appetizer, carminative, digestive, diuretic, cardiovascular, cholagogue, vulnerary and stimulant properties. Turmeric is effective in inhibiting the bacterial growth, and hence, when used for treating acne, it helps in reducing the skin inflammation. It is also helpful in removing the accumulated dirt from these pores. Because of these multiple benefits, turmeric can reduce acne inflammations and gradually remove them completely. The following methods can be used to treat acne:

Drink Turmeric Milk

    Mix 1 teaspoon of turmeric powder in a glass of warm milk and drink it before bedtime regularly. This can improve your immunity, and thus indirectly, your body gets power to fight the bacterial infection of acne.

    Turmeric Application

      Direct application of turmeric powder or paste on acne and surrounding areas are also effective in reducing acne scars and acne in general. Make a paste by mixing 1 tablespoon of turmeric powder with 1 or 2 teaspoons of fresh milk. Apply this paste evenly on your face and let it to dry for 10 minutes. This will dry as a mask on your face. After 20 minutes, wash it clearly with plenty of plain water and soap or face wash. Be careful while applying and washing the turmeric mask, as it can stain your dress, wash basin and bathroom. The regular application of this pack also helps in lightening the skin tone.

      Turmeric Scrub

        Make a scrub at home by mixing 2 teaspoons of turmeric powder, 1 or 2 drops of lemon juice and 1 or 2 drops of mustard or coconut or jojoba or olive oil. Apply this paste on face and leave it for 15 minutes. When it dries, sprinkle a little water and scrub gently by moving your fingers in circular motion. Once the turmeric paste is shed off, wash your face with plain water. This has to be done once every alternate day to remove the acne scars.
