7 Natural Remedies to Get Rid of Age Spots

Age spots, also known as sun spots or liver spots, are brown or dark irregular spots that may occur on the face, cleavage, arms or back due to exposure to sun and aging. There are a lot of chemical peels and laser treatments available, but all these may present risks and will also require a recovery period. Natural remedies that eliminate age spots can be used as an alternative.

1. Fruit Juice

Acidic fruit juice can have a bleaching effect when applied on the skin. Such acidic fruits include cranberries, papaya, apricots or kiwi, and can diminish the appearance of age spots. Apply the juice on the affected areas and make sure that the juice doesn't contain additives or sugar.

The treatment should be applied for several weeks, as results may be visible only after a few weeks. Alternatively, you can cut a few slices of acidic fruits and apply them on the skin that is affected by age spots. You can purchase skin products and masks that contain these fruits as main ingredients.

2. Vitamins

There are a lot of vitamins that may diminish the appearance of age spots. Vitamin E can equalize the skin pigmentation and eliminate liver spots. Vitamin E is available as supplement, and can also be used in creams and applied on the skin.

Vitamin C may is an efficient antioxidant that may repair uneven skin pigmentation.

Vitamin A may also fade the spots; it can be taken orally as a vitamin, and it can also be present in commercial creams.

3. Lemon Juice

Lemon juice is acidic and can lighten the liver spots. Apply lemon juice and don't rinse. The juice will penetrate the skin and bleach the age spots.

4. Castor Oil

Castor oil can affect the pigments and cause a more evenly pigmented skin, reducing the age spots. You can apply the castor oil before going to bed and remove it when waking up. Use a castor oil that is odorless.

5. Lactic Acid

Lactic acid may also lighten the age spots. Opt for products such as sour cream or sour milk. Apply a thick mask of sour cream on your face and leave it for 30 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water. The lactic acid can have a peeling effect and will also lighten the skin pigmentation.

6. Cleansing Diet

A diet that is filled with a lot of raw vegetables and fruits can have a cleansing effect and reduce age spots in time. Avoid processed foods and opt for more home prepared or raw foods that don't have artificial ingredients or additives. Avoid red meat and spicy foods. Follow this diet for 5 to 7 days and repeat the diet once every 3 months for optimal results.

7. Avoid Sun

In order to prevent the occurrence of new age spots, you should avoid exposure to sun. Always wear sunscreen that is suitable for your skin type (at least SPF 15).
