Age Spots Removal: Does Apple Cider Vinegar Really Work?

Most use two parts of vinegar to one part of orange juice (i.e. two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar to 1 tablespoon of orange juice) and prefer this mixture method.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Honey

Water mixed with a just a few drops of apple cider vinegar and a little honey can help to diminish the skin discolorations. When the apple cider vinegar combination is taken as a drink, it is known to help to diminish the age spots faster.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Onion Juice

Apple cider vinegar and onion juice may be a way to fade away age spots. This process can be done by chopping onions with a food processor. The juice from the onion is then strained into a bowl with the use of a strainer or cheesecloth. Mix equal parts of the onion juice and apple cider vinegar, and then apply small amounts at a time carefully dabbing on the spots with a cotton swab. Only apply the mixture on the age spots and not the surrounding areas of skin, as skin irritation could develop.

Some use two teaspoons of apple cider vinegar and one teaspoon of onion juice, twice a day until the spots go away.

Safety Concerns

Apple cider vinegar is often not pasteurized or not filtered properly and can contain harmful bacteria. Its acidic properties may also damage the digestive tract and esophagus, and also change tooth enamel. Reports show that apple cider vinegar can also lower bone density and potassium levels. Strong vinegar can cause skin irritations and even burning or scarring of the organs like the stomach and liver, especially if it is not properly diluted. Also, medical reports indicate that there is the potential for acid chemical burns from apple cider vinegar in pill form. Much caution should be used when drinking or using apple cider vinegar on the skin to remove age spots.
