What to Expect During Sunless Tanning

Sunless tanning is becoming the preferred method for achieving a beautiful bronze color. Tanning in the sun or tanning beds increases the risk of skin cancer, and contributes to premature aging. For those unwilling to take those risks, sunless tanning is a great option. There are several methods for applying sunless tanning products. This can be done either at home or professionally.

Professional sunless tanning is very popular at the moment. It eliminates the goofs of home tanning, such as streaks and ending up orange. A reputable sunless tanning studio will have a good quality product that will leave you with a beautiful, natural-looking tan. There are several different applications methods for sunless tans. It may take some trial and error to find the one that is best for you.

Exfoliate

Sunless tans work by causing a chemical reaction with the top layer of your skin. Since this layer is shed often, sunless tanning does not last long. There are, however, things you can do to optimize color length. Exfoliating is the most important way to make your tan last. Get rid of built up dead skin before your tanning appointment. That way, the solution will have younger skin to attach to and not come off so quickly. Avoid exfoliating after your tan.

Airbrush Tan

An airbrush tan is done by a technician either in a salon or at your home. You will strip down to whatever level you are comfortable with, and the technician will spray your body using a special wand. The great thing about this method is that you can selectively tan only a few parts of your body, if you wish.

Another option is body contouring, in which the technician uses more or less in some areas to make you appear slimmer or more toned. A drawback is the fact that while the tan is developing, you make look very dark and even orange. After it is developed and you have showered, however, it will be a nice golden hue.

Spray Booth

For a spray booth tan, you will have to go to a salon. Since the booths are private, most people totally undress. You will be given a shower cap to wear over your hair. The booth will be programmed to dispense the right amount of solution to give you a light, believable tan. All you have to do then is wipe the solution off of your nails, get dressed, and go. If you desire a deeper tan, the concentration will gradually be increased over several sessions. Do not shower for at least five hours after your spray tan.
