Risks of Vitalize Peel

There are numerous facial rejuvenation treatments available for replenishing lost elasticity of the face and reducing age spots, fine lines, wrinkles and scars; Vitalize Peel is one such treatment. It is a chemical peel used for reducing the photo damage, environmental assaults and age spots and lines on your facial skin. It is a superficial peel that can be used for skin of all tones, complexions and types.

Vitalize Peel contains alpha-hydroxy acids, beta-hydroxy acids, retinoic acid and resorcinol, which work on the epidermis, the outer layer of the skin, to remove your wrinkles and crease lines with one peel. But, you should also be aware of the risks associated with this peel before you decide to have one.

Allergic Reaction

The chemicals in the peel actually result in chemical exfoliation of the epidermis, and thus it can result in rashes and allergic reaction. People allergic to salicylate compounds can produce adverse allergic response after this treatment. Adverse effects can be noticed when alpha-hydroxy acid or Retin-A products are used within a week of this treatment.

Skin Tone Changes

Manual picking or pulling the skin in the peeling condition may result in permanent scars or marks. Hyper pigmentation or hypo pigmentation may be seen in certain cases after the treatment. Hypersensitivity to sun may worsen the peel if proper preventive methods of sun exposure are not taken. The skin may become reddish, leading to an uneven tone.

Pain and Irritation

The skin might become red, irritated or itchy after the treatment. In rare circumstances, it can cause dark spots, swelling and burns. Mild pain and stinging sensation can persist even after hours of the treatment.

Medical Contraindications

Vitalize Peel is not suitable for people with skin problems like sun burn, dermatitis, open wounds, warts, cold sores, sensitive skin or Rosacea. Even pregnant and lactating women are advised to avoid this peel, as salicylic acid in this peel may enter the bloodstream and cause pregnancy complications or Reye’s syndrome in breast-fed children.

Other Risks

Breakout of cold sores happens in patients who are prone to cold sores and blisters. It can eventually lead to the formation of unusual or large scars. Breakouts of acne are also noticed in a few cases after this peel; however, this complication should be effectively controlled as it may lead to scars or pigmentation problems later.

Due to such risks, those who undergo Vitalize Peel are strictly advised to follow some safety measures. For example, avoid sun exposure, bleaching or facial exfoliation as the peeled skin is very sensitive. If the skin care tips are followed properly, then an optimum result with minimum risks can be obtained.

Word of Caution

People with a history of heart disease, herpes and other such medical issues should consult the doctor about these facts before undergoing the treatment. This will help the doctor to take necessary precautions or choose some other rejuvenation treatment that is appropriate for the patient's skin type.

It is important to educate yourself regarding the risks and complications involved so that you can take the necessary precautions beforehand.
