I'm considering dermabrasion for the deep lines above my top lip. Will that treatment work for that issue?
If you are referring to MicroDermabrasion - which gently removes the outermost layers of the epidermis (primarily the stratum corneum) - there will not be any lasting reduction in wrinkle lines, even with repeated treatments.
Dermabrasion - which can remove the epidermis and the outer layers of the dermis to improve wrinkles and scarring - is rarely used today (or for greater than 30 years). Instead, Chemical Peel and Laser are used to reduce deep lines, along with other less invasive (and less effective) treatments such as fractionated treatments (Laser, micro-needling, radiofrequency micro-needling). Fractionated treatments significantly reduce healing time and potential side effects and complications but do not provide the same level of improvement for deep lines, even with repeated treatments.
