When can I have IPL after a breakout?

Depending on the severity of the breakout, it is always best if the acne is under control to do the IPL treatment. If you a have few pimples then it doesn't matter. If you have a breakout that covers the whole face then you should wait. However, if you do have a severe breakout then you can consider the IPL with levulan activation which is topical application prior to the IPL treatment. This is specifically used to treat acne since it thought to decrease oil production which helps reduce the acne but it will magnify the results of the IPL by 2 or 3. In other words, it is like having 2 or 3 IPL's at one sitting. The only drawback is that you will have to stay indoors for 24 hours.

You do not not need to wait after an acne breakout to have an IPL. If the breakout is not too bad you can actually have a treatment while you are broken out. This can actually help calm it down.

You can have IPL treatments before, during or after a breakout. We have not heard of a situation where an IPL will make your breakout worse. In many cases, because IPL can help kill acne bacteria, your breakout may get better.
