Fraxel is a fractionated CO2 laser Treatment. CO2 laser facial resurfacing was always a very effective method for improving the overall look of the skin. It greatly helped with lines, wrinkles and other skin imperfections but was very aggressive and caused severe wounding and downtime for recovery. Fraxel uses CO2 but in a modified fractional basis. Only about 25% of the skin is actually affected in any treatment. This provides many of the same results but without the downtime, although repeated treatments may be required.

There are 4 types of Fraxel depending on the desired strength, how much down time the patient can afford, and overall outcome desired by the patient. In general, Fraxel devices will tighten the skin to some degree, decrease pore size, remove age spots, decrease lines, improve scars, and even skin tone.
