My lips feel lumpy after having Juvederm injections, will they smooth out in a few days?

I had Juvederm filler placed in my lip 3 days ago. There was some bleeding and a fair amount of bruising. It is getting better, but my lips still feel lumpy. Will that smooth out in a few days or not? Should I contact my provider?

You should, certainly, contact your provider. It is likely that at least some of the 'lumpy' feeling may be due to bruising and swelling associated with the administration of the filler. If this is the case, the 'lumpy' feeling should subside during the next couple of weeks. Gentle massage (with thumb and forefinger) may aid in the reduction of the lumpy feeling - however, you should first contact your provider for their recommendations after they have had an opportunity to examine you.

If the irregularities persist once the bruising and swelling subside, you should return to your provider. The enzyme hyaluronidase (Vitrase or Wydase) is often used to dissolve some of the Juvederm and make your lips more even. How long to wait to explore this option varies from one patient to another. As a rule of thumb, what you have in 5-7 days is what is likely the outcome.

When lumps occur following Juvederm injections, we ask our clients to gently massage the lumps with their fingers. This usually makes the lumps dissipate. However, you may want to contact your provider and see what they recommend.

If your lips feel lumpy after Juvederm treatments, wait about 5 days. If they still feel lumpy following that period, then contact your physician.

The lumpiness you are experiencing after Juvederm injections should smooth over time.
