Acne scars are very difficult to treat. They vary greatly in severity. Microdermabrasion may help or may be used in combination with other more aggressive laser therapies. In order to reduce downtime we often use a less aggressive procedure called sublative and have had great success when used in series. We also use fillers to aid in this problem. I would seek out a board certified dermatologist that performs these types of procedures.

Microdermabrasion will have no effect if you have indented acne scars. You will have to use some type of energy based device performed at a doctor's office. Without seeing the scars, I am not able to recommend which type, but I recommend that you seek professional medical advice (someone who specializes in acne scars and has multiple devices to choose from).

Microdermabrasion should help with the acne scars on your face and not result in side effects.
