Does Fotofacial/IPL treatments cause cancer?

Have studies been done to show whether IPL or other light-based skin rejuvenation procedures raise the likelihood of melanoma?

IPL (intense pulsed light) consists, of visible and infrared wavelengths. These wavelengths are not associated with skin cancer and melanoma as is ultraviolet wavelengths (or ionizing X-radiation).

There is no evidence or studies showing that Photofcial causes skin cancer.

There have been no studies to show this link. The light used in IPL
treatment is not the same as sunlight and therefore does not carry the
same risk.

There have been no studies to suggest a direct correlation for an increased risk of Melanoma. However studies have proven that light based treatments may decrease pre-cancerous cells especially when combined with Levulanic Acid. You should always see a Dermatologist annually for a full body exam.
