Estheticians are only allowed to perform chemical peels that work on the epidermal layer. Any deeper peel ie TCA;s is prohibited by the State Board.

An esthetician can perform chemical peels without a physician present. There are many different types of chemical peels in terms of strength and also the amount of time they are left on the skin. Estheticians are only allowed to use 30% acid solution or lower while nurses, PAs, NPs and Physicians are allowed to use higher than 30% solution. Esthetician
peels are designed to be very superficial, along the lines of a facial, so if you are looking for more dramatic results for a serious skin condition (acne scars, wrinkles, etc), we would suggest going the medical route.
