12 Years of Melasma
A friend of mine of Korean descent has been suffering for over 12 years with melasma and it is crushing her self-esteem. I would like to know the BEST treatments available?

We use high strength hydroquinone based bleaching programs. Cosmelan MD
and our own proprietary system. Both are between 6% - 10% Hydroquinone.
Many patients that have tried hydroquinone based programs but usually
only at 4% and many times without an exfoliating agent (Cosmelan uses
Retin A).
We have tried laser protocols (q-switched lasers) as well and the
results have not been as good as with the HQ programs.

You can consider the Fraxel Re:fine which is a laser FDA approved for
melasma. Another choice is Cosmelan which is a topical regimen to
bleach the pigment.
