Late syphilis (tertiary)

Manifestations of tertiary syphilis can occur after a period of latency of 20 years or more and include significant neural deterioration manifesting as tabes dorsalis and paralysis, and cardiovascular syphilis.
Skin changes include the syphilitic gumma, an expanding cutaneous nodule(s) that can develop central necrosis and an ulcer with a scalloped edge.
Gummata can be up to 10 cm in diameter.
Mucous membrane lesion gummas can also include palate and nasal septal perforation.
