Scleredema

Synonym:

Scleredema adultorum
Scleredema of Buschke

Scleredema, occurring most commonly after a streptococcal infection, is manifested by a progressive stiffening and induration of the skin of the neck, face or elsewhere.
The induration is caused by an excess deposition of acid mucopolysaccharides.
The disease is more common in diabetics.
Occasionally, there can be systemic, including myocardial, involvement.

• Etidronate
