Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans

Acrodermatitis chronica atrophicans is a late manifestation of infection with Borrelia burgdorferi, often developing years after the infection.
It is most common in Northern Europe.

Erythematous plaques appear and enlarge on the hands, feet, elbows and knees, occasionally elsewhere; they gradually become atrophic and more violaceous.

Treatment:

• Amoxicillin 1 gm po tid or doxycycline 100 mg po tid for 3 weeks is often effective.
• More prolonged treatment may be required.
