Treatment for psoriasis aims to interrupt the cycle that causes the red, scaly patches from appearing. The increased production of skin cells is what leads to the plaques found on the skin. By interrupting this cycle, patients may reduce inflammation and plaque formation.
Topical Corticosteroids
These are anti-inflammatory drugs that are often prescribed for treatment of psoriasis. They are designed to relieve itching and inflammation by suppressing the immune system. Light Therapy
Light therapy involves exposing the skin to natural or artificial sources of ultraviolet light. Sunlight, UVB phototherapy, narrow band UVB therapy, photochemotherapy and excimer laser are possible sources of ultraviolet light used to treat psoriasis.
