Treatments for Melasma

Abnormal hair loss is embarrassing and can lower self-esteem. This condition can be caused by malnutrition, undernutrition, heredity or certain medical problems. Hair grows, rests and in the end falls out. The human hair cycle usually repeats after a year. Only 10 percent of scalp hair is in the resting phase between two and three months; at the end of this period, the hair sheds off. The 90 percent is in the growing phase, usually lasting from two to six years. Losing 50 to 100 strands of hair daily is normal; beyond that, you may be suffering from some form of abnormal hair loss that would require any of these treatments.

Improve Your Diet

Depending on the gravity of your condition, the solution may be as simple as correcting your diet so you get the necessary nutrients that will stop abnormal hair loss. Hair is made up of protein, the same kind found in your nails. Maintain healthy hair production with an adequate supply of protein in your diet.

The right kinds and amounts of vitamins are also necessary for a healthy scalp. Vitamin A from food sources like mangoes, oranges, carrots, squash and sweet potatoes helps in producing adequate quantities of sebum, the oily substance that protects the hair and skin from drying out. Without it, you suffer from dandruff, dry hair and a thick scalp, and these eventually lead to hair loss.

Vitamin B, specifically B6 and folic acid, is a necessary component in the production of hemoglobin that provides the scalp with enough oxygen to make your hair grow healthy. Vitamin C aids in the healthy production of collagen that keeps your hair strong.

Use Herbal Medicine

Alopecia is a condition wherein hairlines recede and hair thins out. Hair creams and other medications do not always work to alleviate this problem. There are, however, more effective treatments for alopecia.

Aloe Vera

Aloe vera is a plant with several medicinal properties, and it works wonders for alopecia and bald spots. To use this plant as a treatment for hair loss, break off a leaf and collect the gel-like juice. Massage this juice onto your scalp and allow it to dry. You will see positive results in as little as 3 days after regular use. However, you might experience a brief “healing crisis” after a week or so when the scalp seems to dry out or follicles drop off. This means the area is being cleared out and the scalp’s pH level is being balanced to pave the way for new hair growth.

Grape Seed or Saw Palmetto Oil Extract

Minimizing the production of dihydrotestosterone (DHT), the hormone associated with hair loss, is one solution to the problem. Grape seed oil extract contains azaleic acid, the enzyme that inhibits the production of DHT. It improves the condition of the hair follicle and shaft, helping them to retain more moisture. Saw palmetto oil extract acts in the same way.

Tea Tree Oil

To reduce the inflammation of the scalp, a common symptom of hair loss due to medical conditions, apply tea tree oil. It is a natural antiseptic that contracts the pores of the scalp, allowing it to breathe.
