Metronidazole treatment is best used for moderate to severe rosacea. It is the antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity that causes Metronidazole to work so effectively against rosacea. The function of Metronidazole is to enter the bacterial cell and to destroy the residing bacteria. The medication is used to treat various infections of the skin, respiratory tract, stomach and joints. When treating rosacea, this medication has been shown to reduce the inflammation and pustules up to 65 percent within nine weeks.
How to Use Metronidazole
Before using Metronidazole, inform your doctor if you are allergic to any medications. If you are pregnant, the treatment should not be used. The doctor should also be notified if you become pregnant while using Metronidazole.
The skin should be clean and dry before the medication is applied. Rub a thin layer of the treatment on the affected areas and try to avoid contact with the eyes and mouth. If this happens, rinse thoroughly with water. Metronidazole should be applied twice per day to the affected areas or as prescribed by your doctor.
