How to Stop Excessive Sweating

Hypohydrosis, or Excessive Sweating, is a way the body responds to extreme temperatures. However, the excessive sweating is not a normal reaction, and should be controlled with different methods. Excessive perspiration can be stopped using surgery or natural remedies. Perspiration can be triggered by fear or stress, so avoiding factors causing these can also stop excessive sweating.

Sympathectomy is the surgical method that will eliminate excessive sweating. Sweating occurs in the palms, feet, face and armpits, where there are a lot of sweat glands, but the entire body can perspire. Perspiration is caused by the sympathetic system and the sympathetic nerves. The surgery will inhibit or eliminate these nerves.

Excessive sweating can be stopped using an efficient antiperspirant. These can be used for the armpits and there are also sprays that have an antiperspirant effect for the feet, but there are no solutions to stop facial or palm sweating.

Baby Powder

Baby powder may be used to stop excessive sweating. The powder will absorb the perspiration; however, it can be difficult to use as it may leave white marks on the clothes.

Botox Injections

Botox injections may be effective in reducing excessive facial sweating. Botox is a cosmetic treatment that contains diluted amounts of botulinum toxin and which are applied to eliminate dynamic wrinkles. The botulinum toxin inhibits the facial muscles and these will be relaxed at all times, so the face will be less likely to sweat. A treatment of Botox may only be effective for 6 to 9 months, so it should be periodically repeated to prevent the excessive sweating.

Medical Treatment

There are 2 types of excessive sweating: sweating caused by stress or high temperatures, and sweating caused by an underlying condition such as diabetes or thyroid hyperfunction. Menopausal women may also experience excessive sweating.

If the hyperhydrosis is caused by a medical condition, this condition should be managed with medication and the excessive sweating should also be regularized.

Choose Your Clothes and Shoes

The choice of clothes and shoes is important to prevent excessive sweating. Nylon and artificial materials can cause excessive sweating. Get natural fabrics such as cotton, wool or leather to ensure that the clothes, socks or shoes you wear don't aggravate your condition. Wear loose clothes that allow the air to circulate and will prevent excessive perspiration. Wear clothes and shoes that are adapted to the temperatures in your home, car or outside. Being too warm or too cold can facilitate excessive sweating.

Two Showers per Day

More frequent showers can reduce the amount of sweat. Opt for a shower in the morning and one in the evening.

Watch Your Diet

Diet can also contribute to excessive sweating. Avoid spicy foods or sweets in excess to reduce the sweating.

Avoid Stress

Avoiding stress can reduce excessive sweating. Monitor the triggers of stress in your life and eliminate these, if possible. You can also opt for different meditation or yoga classes that will relieve stress.
