Symptoms of Skin Rashes

There are many different symptoms of skin rashes. A skin rash is caused by some type of irritation to the skin. There are many different irritants that can cause rashes such as detergents, poisonous plants, lotions or fabrics. These are the most common symptoms of a rash.

Inflammation

When a skin rash begins, it may cause the skin to be red and inflamed. It can hurt or sting also. It can worsen if you scratch it. Most of the rashes which start out with inflammation will go away on their own. If it does get worse or spreads, it may need treatment.

Bumps

Many rashes, such as a heat rash, will cause little bumps to form on the skin. Sometimes these bumps can be red or they may just stay the color of your skin. These can cause no discomfort, or they may be painful depending on the type of rash and what has caused it.

Itching

A lot of different skin rashes will begin by the skin itching and being irritated. It is best not to scratch at it, but this can be hard sometimes, especially in little kids. Itching is the beginning of many fungal skin rashes, such as athletes foot or ringworm. These types of rashes need to be treated or they will get worse.

Fever

Depending on the type of rash, it may start with a fever. You may develop a fever and then the rash may appear anywhere on the body. Rashes that accompany a fever are chickenpox or measles.

There are many different symptoms that can accompany a skin rash. If you develop a rash and it does not go away or gets worse, it may be necessary to see a doctor.
