Symptoms of Fine Lines and Wrinkles

Wrinkles are distinguished lines and creases that form around the eyes (crows feet), on the forehead, around the nose, corners of the mouth (laugh lines), and on the neck. Other places they can appear include:

• On the backs of hands
• Tops of forearms
• Between the eyebrows (frown lines)
• On the upper lip
• On the cheeks
• In front of the ears.

Any place on the skin that is most exposed to the sun is where fine lines and wrinkles generally appear.

Fine lines and wrinkles can also be accompanied by other signs of aging and skin damage such as a dry and brittle skin surface, age spots, and loose and saggy skin. People who are consistently exposed to the sun's harmful rays without proper protection can also develop a leathery skin texture.

Wrinkles are put into two categories; fine lines and deep furrows.

Fine lines (static)

These are thin surface lines that can sometimes appear as crosshatch marks and are often a result of exposure to harmful outside agents such as tobacco and excessive sun exposure.

Deep Furrows (dynamic wrinkles)

Deeper set lines or furrows are a result of frequent facial expressions and movement. Over time these lines become static and are present even when our face is at rest. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms the good news is there are many treatment options available to improve the look of facial lines and wrinkles. Consult with your skin care professional to find out which treatment option is most appropriate for you.
