Medical Conditions and Palomar Fractional Resurfacing

Palomar Fractional Resurfacing is a treatment that is used on the skin to remove blemishes and make repairs. Your doctor will determine if the treatment is right for you. If you have certain medical conditions, you may not be a good candidate for this laser treatment.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy can have certain affects on your skin due to hormonal changes. These changes, such as acne, often go away after the baby is born and hormones are back to normal. It is wise to wait until after pregnancy to see if these changes resolve themselves.

Acne Treatments

If you have an acne condition that requires you to take an Isotretinoin treatment for six months or more, you will not be allowed to undergo fractional resurfacing. This procedure may interfere or react with the acne treatment.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is a disease which damages nerves in the eye, eventually causing blindness. If you have glaucoma, fractional resurfacing may not be the best treatment for you due to the lasers, which could further damage sensitive nerves in the eye.

Detached Retina

A detached retina is a condition where the retina actually pulls away from tissue in the eye. This is a serious condition which should be taken care of before having Palomar fractional resurfacing or any laser treatment done.

Skin Infection

If you have bacterial or viral skin infections, you may not be a candidate for this procedure. The procedure may not be effective and may cause even more damage to sensitive areas of the skin.

Scleroderma

Scleroderma is a condition that causes the skin to harden and thicken, and become discolored. People with this disease are not eligible for fractional resurfacing because of its affect on the skin.
