Although there are various options for acne treatment, herbal and natural remedies are gaining more popularity due to their added benefits and zero side effects. One of the most beneficial and well known natural remedies for acne problem is the use of green or herbal tea. Herbal tea is found to be effective in reducing inflammation, and it also aids in detoxification.
Medicinal Properties of Herbal Tea
The basic organic herbs used as ingredients in the herbal tea decide its value-added medicinal properties that help in healing the inflammation and blemishes on the surface of the skin. Some of the commonly used herbs in herbal tea preparations are tea tree oil, green tea and Aloe Vera.
Aloe Vera is used in the herbal tea treatment, as the extracts of this plant help to reduce the acne scars and acne as well. Tea tree oil is found to contain natural benzoyl peroxide – which helps in controlling acne. Acne induced by hormonal changes can also be cured significantly using herbal tea. Green tea contains antioxidants that not only treat acne, but also prevent cancer.
So, in general, the herbs used in herbal tea contain antioxidants and have antibacterial properties which aid in fighting acne. When detoxifying herbs are used, the toxic elements present in the body, which lead to the acne formation, also get flossed out so that acne is controlled at the root level.
Herbal Tea Treatments
Herbal tea treatments come in various forms; they can be consumed as herbal tea, applied on face as creams containing green tea, or even taken as a pill. When herbal tea is to be consumed as a tea beverage, care should be taken. Sugar should not be added to it, as the curing properties of herbal tea gets affected.
- Tea Recipe 1: Take 1 ounce each of yellow dock, turkey corn, figwort, thuja and echinacea, and add half ounce each of Acticum lappa and Iris versicolor. Drink a cup of herbal tea prepared from this mixture at least two times a day.
- Tea Recipe 2: Echinacea, valerian, purslane, dandelions, ivy, strawberry leaves, watercress, goldenseal, yarrow root, marshmellow root and burdrock have to be mixed together in equal proportions. Prepare herbal tea out of this mixture and consume it two to three times daily.
Soak green tea bags, rub these wet tea bags on the acne-affected areas, and leave it for drying. Then, wash it with plain water.
Acne can be caused due to various underlying medical problems apart from the hormonal changes and excessive sebum production. Hence, whenever acne problems are severe and becomes unmanageable with natural remedies, it is advisable to consult a dermatologist. The appropriate and adequate treatment can be decided only after careful examination and proper tests.
