Hair Loss Natural Remedy: Onion Juice

Onion juice is an effective and safe hair loss natural remedy that can be easily adopted by people suffering from alopecia or alopecia areata. Alopecia areata or the progressive loss of scalp hair in the form of large patches continues to be one of the biggest challenges for contemporary medicine with very few medicines/drugs being potent enough to treat this condition. However, onion juice is reported to improve scalp health and restore hair growth when used systematically over a period.

How Onion Juice Treats Hair Loss

During alopecia areata, the presence of a compound called DHT (a derivative of dihydrotestosterone) is responsible for severely impairing the amount of nutrition directed to the hair follicles. DHT is known to cause shrinking of hair follicles and is largely responsible for alopecia areata among men. Onion juice acts like a natural deterrent to DHT receptors.

Onion juice has natural antiseptic properties. Thus, it helps to fight bacterial or fungal infections that are often found in diseased hair follicles of a balding patch. Similarly, there are certain parasites that feed-off the skin cells of the scalp, contributing to gradual thinning of hair. These parasites too are deterred by regular application of onion juice.

Onion juice contains certain nutrients that nourish the hair follicles. This includes vitamin C and B6 along with trace amounts of magnesium, potassium and germanium. Most significantly, onion contains high amounts of sulphur. This mineral is integral for the revival of dormant or dead hair follicles. This is why many shampoos sold for treating hair thinning are fortified with sulfur. Further, onion juice promotes better circulation of blood in the scalp, helping to rejuvenate the hair follicles.

Using Onion Juice for Scalp Health

Preparing onion juice for application along the scalp is rather easy. You simply need to peel off the onion skin and dice the onion into small chunks. Grind these chunks using a juicer and use a strainer to obtain juice with water-like consistency. Use some cotton for dabbing the balding patches with onion juice. One or two onions provide sufficient juice for a single application.

The juice is best applied during the late evening or night time. It should be left on overnight, allowing it to soak into the hair follicles. The onion juice should be stored in a glass jar. It is always better to use fresh onion juice to attain faster results.
