You have a sensitive skin when your skin responds quickly to environmental changes or certain chemical products. Sensitive skin can easily sunburn, wind-burn, become red or blotchy and form scars. Hence, skin care for sensitive skin is an altogether different routine. As most of the skin care products have some chemical ingredients in them, they might not be suitable for use on sensitive skin. Only natural or herbal products may be helpful to ease the problems of such skin. Here are the 4 most commonly used and effective remedies for easing the problem-prone sensitive skin.

1. Herbal Care

Herbs can work wonders on any skin type. Try few of these remedies to treat your sensitive skin.

  • Use Jojoba oil or almond oil as your face cleanser.
  • Make a toner for your face with Comfrey steeped in water.
  • Exfoliate your facial skin with a mixture of oatmeal and grapefruit.
  • Apply a fruit or vegetable mask to your face. For example, mix cucumber paste and yogurt, apply it on your face for some time and then rinse it off.
  • To reduce the redness and blotchiness of your skin, make a gel out of aloe vera and apply it to your skin.

2. Essential Oils

Sensitive skins tend to get dry faster, and hence, it is essential to keep it moist. You can use essential oils like Rose, Chamomile, Lavender, Neroli and Sandalwood oils that have a soothing effect on your skin. However, you should take care to first dilute these essential oils according to the specifications given in the label of the oil container. In general, it is 15 drops of essential oil to 1 ounce of carrier oil. This diluted oil can be gently massaged into the skin. You can also add 5 or 6 drops of essential oil in warm bath water and soak yourself for 15 minutes.

3. Natural Moisturizer

Prepare a moisturizing exfoliation mask from the ingredients in your kitchen, as it can help you to take care of sensitive skin. Take 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 tablespoons of yogurt, one-third of a cup of quick cooking oatmeal, an egg white and half a cup of water. First, add water to the oatmeal and cook it. Set it aside for cooling and then mix other ingredients in a blender. Now, apply this mask on your face and rinse with warm water after 15 minutes.

4. Green Tea

Green tea is proved to have anti-inflammatory effects. Apart from this, if used tea bags are kept on your eyes, it can reduce the dark circles. Chamomile or green tea bags can be used for nourishing and healing the sensitive skin around the eyes.

Word of Caution

Drinking plenty of water and eating a balanced diet will help in the long run, as it keeps you healthy. Beware, even natural and herbal remedies may cause allergic reactions in certain sensitive-skinned people, due to the organic ingredients. Hence, it is necessary to test the product on a small area, and then use it all over again only when there is no adverse reaction.
